ORBIT INTRODUCES NEW ECONOMICAL CONTROL PANELS FOR SNOW AND ICE MELTING RADIANT HEATING SYSTEMS

Perkasie, PA, April, 2005 -- Orbit Radiant Heating, a leading provider of high-quality electric radiant heating solutions for residential and commercial applications, now offers a new series of control panels for its snow and ice melting systems used for parking lots, steps, driveways, walkways, handicapped ramps, and patios. The RSMCK series economically and reliably provides up to 200 Amps of power for use with pavement snow and ice sensors on most ground surfaces, including concrete, brick, pavers or asphalt.

The RSMCK series of control panels are offered with 100 A capacity (RSMCK-2C) using two 50 Amp contactors, or 200 Amp capacity (RSMCK-4C) using four 50 Amp contactors. Both control panels are enclosed in a NEMA 1 UL listed panel box (indoor rating), and have pre-wired and pre-numbered terminal connections for easy installation and operation.  The control panels also feature a red “heat on” pilot light, which indicates to the user that the system is in operation, or has been accidentally activated, which could help prevent damage to the system.  The panels are constructed with proven components for complete reliability.

The control panel kits are shipped with an aerial mounted snow sensor switch to provide power to the radiant heating cables. The sensor switch automatically activates the cables to melt snow or ice when the temperature reaches 38ºF (3ºC) and moisture is present. Once the sensor no longer detects moisture or the temperature rises above the threshold, the sensor continues heating the snow melting cables for a maximum of 90 minutes to account for any site differences. For manual operation, RSMCK control panels are equipped with a four-hour manual override timer that allows users to bypass the snow sensor, which is an ideal method to melt skim ice or drifting snow.

Also available from Orbit is the RSM24V conversion kit. The kit is designed to convert the standard RSMCK control panel voltage from 120 Volts to 24 Volts, to be used in conjunction with Orbit’s pavement mounted sensor.

The RSMCK control panels provide power for Orbit’s Nexans snow and ice melting cable based systems. Manufactured in Norway, TXLP cable is designed to withstand the rigors of harsh outdoor use. It incorporates three waterproof coverings consisting of a moisture-proof splice, an insulated cover, and a metal-clad sheath to ensure longevity. The UL-listed cable is available in voltages from 120 Volts to 480 Volts, is completely concealed during operation, easy to install and comes with a 10-year product warranty.  The Nexans cable system has no mechanical parts, so no maintenance is required.

Prices for RSMCK control panels start at $745.00 list and can be shipped within 1-2 days ARO.
